Renowned Ayurveda physician Vaidyamadham no more
Vaidyamadham Cheriya Narayanan Namboodiri, legendary practitioner and exponent of Kerala’s Ayurvedic healing tradition, passed away at a private hospital in October.
In the much-revered Vaidyamadham family of traditional physicians in Palakkad district, C N Namboodiri had unique skills in diagnosis and treatment. The popular belief is that he was able to make a clear diagnosis just by seeing a patient and was able to cure diseases which even the practitioners of modern medicine would term incurable. Namboodiri, a scholar in Sanskrit and Malayalam, has authored 20 books related to Ayurveda and literature. He hailed from a family with the title of Shalavaidya, physicians responsible for the health of Yagna participants. Vaidyamadham had won several awards like the Kerala government’s “Ayurveda Acharya” award for contributions to the field of Ayurveda.
