First step towards an Ayurveda Village

The old building at Palora Hill at Thalakkulathur in Kozhikode is set to make history as the first Ayurvedic health centre for children and adolescents in the State. The health centre as well as the proposed ‘Ayush Kamiyam Ayurvedic Village’ were facilities that the panchayat proudly looked forward to. The government had sanctioned Rs.7 lakh for a mental health unit in the Ayurvedic Village. Steps would be taken to develop the centre to make it a national-level institution into a model centre. Also necessary measures would be taken to get the accreditation of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care providers.

A.K. Saseendran, MLA, who presided over the function, raised the demand that the centre be named after the former Health Minister A.C. Shanmughadas, who had envisioned a Panchakarma centre in the 4.5 acres where the hospital is located. Though his vision did not materialise, the building constructed for the Panchakarma Centre could be used for the hospital. Health Minister V.S.Sivakumar said the demand would be considered. The district panchayat developed the concept of a specialty care centre for children after the success of its Spandanam project that focused on the emotional and mental well-being of children.
