The Government Ayurveda College Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram has launched a dental clinic, offering ayurvedic dental cure for patients. The clinic, inaugurated by health minister V S Sivakumar, is the first-of-its-kind among Ayurvedic hospitals across the state. The venture, which began on an experimental basis, promises to provide complete dental care using Ayurvedic medicines. Initially, the clinic, under the supervision of the department of Shalakya Tantra (eye & ENT), will have the presence of BDS-qualified doctors as well. The new initiative not only provides treatment using Ayurveda, but will also have research programmes involving allopathy and ayurvedic treatments.

As the college has completed its 125th year, principal P K Ashok and Ayurveda medical education director Dr T Sivadas have been directed to submit a master plan for the complete development of the institution. Allopathy doctors will be appointed soon at the government ayurveda medical colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Tripunithura and Kannur according to the mandatory norms of the Central Council of Indian Medicine under the ministry of Ayush. Also measures will be taken to bring the stipend of Ayurveda house surgeons on a par with Allopathy surgeons. The OP consultation time at the clinic is from 8am to 1pm with nominal charges, except on Sundays. Along with tooth extraction and root canal treatment, Ayurvedic care will also be given for problems like tooth decay, swollen gums, toothache, and gum infections.
