Ayurveda an Integral Part of Indian Life
Ayurveda is imbibed and integrated in Indian life and most of us do not know it as ‘Ayurveda’ but as just the way life is supposed to be lead. Earlier and in some parts of India even now, Vaidyas were only physicians.
All over India, tooth pastes and tooth brushed were promoted instead of Neem or Timru datoon. Aspirin, various codeine products were promoted to relived pain instead of the good old methods with various kind of heat therapy and the lepas from various plant products like Turmaric, Fenugreek (Methi), Garlic, etc.
Unfortunately, our policy makers of independent India had western values and indigenous science, medicine and technology was not only ignored but condemned. Instead of promoting our ancient wealth of wisdom, it was deemed lower and inferior as compared to the Western medicine and technology. Health Centres made in villages and small towns only catered to the Western system of medicine. Health workers educated people in Western ways of hygiene and indigenous meathods were devalued. For example, all over India tooth pastes and tooth brushed were promoted instead of Neem or Timru datoon.
