Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow is all set to have an incubation centre for herbal products. The Technology, Business and Incubation Center (TBIC), “will be the first incubation centre for manufacturing of herbal products. It will provide ‘hand holding’ facility to entrepreneurs who want to start a business without the risk of investing in machinery, infrastructure and technology,” said director CIMAP Anil Kumar Tripathi.

Entrepreneur will have the marketing rights and will be exempted from paying a license fee for CIMAP herbal products technology. In fact, they will have the right to decide the MRP of the product. “Entrepreneurs will have the option to select from CIMAP herbal products or they can come up with the idea to develop herbal products”, he added.

“Besides generating employment under ‘start up India Programme’, it will help popularize CIMAP products by increasing their penetration in the market,” said senior scientist and in charge of TBIC, Dinesh Kumar.

The centre will be the first among the 38 CSIR laboratories in the country. Two production units and three laboratories, microbial, analytical and quality assurance, have been set up at the center. There are units for manufacturing oils, shampoo, face wash, herbal creams, balms and gels, among other products.
