Close all Ayurvedic, Unani medical colleges and start MBBS instead
The Medicos Legal Action Group (MLAG) opposed the Haryana government’s bill for amendment of The Punjab Ayurvedic and Unani Practitioners (Haryana Amendment) Act, 2014 that allows Ayurvedic and Unani practitioners to practice modern medicine, including minor surgeries.
The central and state governments were coming up with proposals to give prescription rights to non-MBBS graduates for modern medicine. Recently, there was a proposal for a bridge course in pharmacology for homeopathic doctors to allow them to practice modern medicine in Maharashtra.
There was no point in providing a backdoor entry into modern medicine. All AYUSH (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) practitioners practiced modern medicine and the government wanted to legalise this, why not close all undergraduate AYUSH medical colleges and start MBBS course in them using the infrastructure.
