as bg2 - DMA opposes ministry’s cross-pathy plan

The Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has opposed health ministry’s plan to allow homeopathic and ayurvedic doctors to prescribe essential allopathic medicines.

In a letter to the Union health minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan, the DMA requested the government to utilize their services to tackle paucity of doctors in rural areas, if any, rather than allowing the doctors of other pathies to prescribe the Allopathy medicines.

The DMA is for development of all the pathies (form of medicine) in their respective fields whether Allopathy, Unani, Ayurveda, Homeopathy or Siddha. If the cross-pathy is allowed it will dampen the development of the particular pathy.

The DMA also suggested measures to the Union health ministry to improve the health infrastructure in rural areas of the country. It suggested three-month rural posting during second-year post-graduation studies. The DMA further suggested mandatory one-year rural posting while giving appointment to doctors through UPSC or state service commissions, reservation in PG courses and also promotional benefits for doctors working in rural areas. Also retired doctors can be considered for two years deputation post retirement and government attract doctors for rural practice by providing better infrastructure and security.
