Prince Charles is denying it because Ayurveda is not accepted in the West: Ayush Minister
New Delhi. Ayush Minister Shripad Naik is confident that Ayush system can be successfully used to treat corona virus. Although, in the absence of scientific validation the ancient Indian medicinal stream has only been used as a preventive measure during the current situation. He also claimed that Prince Charles’ denial regarding the help of Ayurveda could be because the western society doesn’t accept the ancient system of Ayurveda in general. In an interview with the news agency PTI, Naik said, when other systems like allopathy have failed, we have a solution to treat COVID-19 through Ayurveda.
Naik claimed earlier this week that Dr Isaac Mathai, who runs the Soukya Ayurveda Resort in Bengaluru, told him that his treatment of “Prince Charles through Ayurveda and homeopathy has been successful”. In a response to this news, Clarence House refuted the reports. “This information is incorrect. The Prince of Wales followed the medical advice of the NHS in the UK and nothing more,” a Clarence House spokesperson said.
Earlier, in its first advisory on 29th January 2020, AYUSH press release mentioned Homoeopathy for prevention of Corona Virus infections and use of Unani medicines in symptomatic management of Corona Virus infections. Again a clarification issued by the department that the two advisories issued on 29th January, 2020 are only indicating general precautionary measures to be followed in the context of such viral diseases. These advisories neither claimed effective treatment for Corona virus nor suggested any specific drug to combat corona virus. The personal hygienic measures and few herbal preparations which may be helpful to maintain health are indicated in the advisory. It was also advised that the use of these preparations should be done in consultation with registered practitioners from respective system of medicine, stated the press release.
Fresh claim from the minister again created headlines after his interview to PTI in Panji,Goa on Tuesday,7th April. We have put up our claim before the PM after which he has acted and a task force has been formed, he said.We have been asked for scientific validation for the Ayurvedic formula.Once scientific validation of some formulas in Ayurveda is done, the country would be ready to treat COVID-19 patients with it.
Republic World’s fact check on Prince Charles Ayurvedic treatment claims found the rumours to be False. According to various reports, on asking for a proof from Dr Isaac Mathai (who runs the ayurvedic health centre SOUKYA in Bengaluru), Mathai was quoted saying that as Prince Charles was his patient, he couldn’t give any statement regarding the same due to the doctor-patient confidentiality rule. After an analysis of the Google Trends with respect to the “Prince Charles ayurvedic treatment” rumours, one can see that the people have been hugely interested to know whether Prince Charles was really treated by Ayurveda.
