as bg2 - Rishikesh to turn into ‘Aarogya Nagar’

30 June/ Ayurved Sutra/ Dehradun

Uttarakhand health department is all set to develop Rishikesh into a state-of-the-art ‘aarogya nagar’. Under the same spa centres, panchkarma therapy centres, naturopathy and yoga zones would have to register under the health department to ensure best possible facilities at reasonable prices. The move will help the state to make inroads into organized medical tourism. Rishikesh has been chosen for this as it already attracts thousands of tourists to its various ghats and ashrams every year.

Surendra Singh Negi, Health Minister of Uttarakhand said, “The prime objective of bringing medical tourism into the organized sector is to ensure that tourists are not cheated in any form in the name of ayurvedic treatment. We don’t want the image of Uttarakhand to suffer among tourists as they are an important part of our economy.”

“Doctors and practitioners in the centres will have to take into consideration guidelines laid by the Clinical Establishment Act, 2010, which provide details on hiring qualified practitioners, hygiene and infrastructure,” said Dr Neeraj Kherwal, director, Uttarakhand National Health Mission.

The health department also plans to turn Tunganath in Rudraprayag, Lohaghat in Champawat and Jageshwar in Almora into ‘aarogya nagars’.
