RTO bans fitness certificates by Ayurvedic doctors
Maharashtra Transport Commissioner has decided not to entertain fitness certificates issued by Ayurvedic doctors to persons applying for driving licence. Now, only doctors at government hospitals or those having MBBS degree can issue such certificates. The transport commissioner’s office issued the circular in this regard in October to all Regional Transport Offices.
A government order of 1996 had allowed medical practitioners with BHMS or DHMS degrees to issue fitness certificates for driving license. The fresh orders cancel the old orders. This new order is issued after Deputy RTO caught a person with poor vision, who had managed to obtain a certificate from an Ayurvedic doctor as medically fit for driving a vehicle.
