Sadhguru visits Ahmedabad to rope in schools for IDY
Being at the forefront of a campaign to make school students embrace yoga “as a tool for mental and physical well-being”, spiritual leader Sadhguru, founder of Isha Foundation, addressed civil service aspirants at Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) in Ahmedabad. .
He aims to covering nearly 10,000-15,000 schools across the nation for the International Day of Yoga (IDY, June 21) when he plans to address the increasing suicidal tendencies among children by motivating them to follow yoga. He was in Gujarat to cover the state under the campaign for which a meeting was scheduled with the chief minister later in the day. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have already given their consent to be a part of this campaign. “We want to touch the students in a big way by training school teachers not only to teach but to sustain through a year as a simple form of yoga. We also wish to do this in Gujarat,” he said.
Terming the IDY as the most visionary step of the Prime Minister, he said, “Declaring the International Yoga Day means the entire world will have the capabilities to take tools of transformation into their own hands.”
Asked about his support in making yoga mandatory in schools, he said that it must not be done as an imposition, but with an understanding and in a school one should not use words like compulsory and mandatory.
