SHIMLA: Governor Acharya Devvrat said the Ayurveda Department should set up laboratories to undertake intensive research on ayurvedic medicines in the state so that better healthcare could be given to patients at low rates, The Tribune reports.

Interacting with top officials of the Ayurveda Department, headed by Ayurveda Minister Karan Singh at Raj Bhawan, the Governor said keeping in view rise in the number of critical diseases, there was an urgent need to intensify research work in medical field. He said Ayurveda was the oldest system of medicine and Ayurveda medical practitioners had a big responsibility on their shoulders as a large number of people relied on them for treatment and maintaining a healthy life.

He said incurable diseases could be cured through Ayurveda and this holistic science was the knowledge of complete balance of the body, mind, and spirit, including emotions and psychology at all levels

Acharya Devvrat said the state had been blessed with immense natural forest wealth and a variety of rare herbs were found here which should be harnessed for manufacturing ayurvedic medicines to benefit people.

He advised the department to prepare a detailed project for setting up labs and enhancing infrastructural facilities in Ayurveda health institutes.

On this occasion, Karan Singh said a consultative committee would be constituted for preparing the project for ayurvedic laboratories for which Central funds would be sought.

He said a list of established traditional “vaids” would be prepared and their work put in order for further research work.
