Unani Medicine Part of Our Cultural Heritage: NCPUL Chief
Unani Medicine is an important part of the cultural heritage, and it is the responsibility of all of us to protect as well as promote it, said Director National Council for Promotion of Urdu Sheikh Aquil Ahmed. At a meeting held at the Council headquarters regarding the Greek panel of medicine, he said that the Unani medicine and Urdu had a deep connection and the language used to study and tell about the Greek methods of treatment in India was Urdu. He also said that Unani Medicine is one of the most important in promoting and preserving Urdu as a language.
The Unani medical practitioners used Urdu as the language medium to prescribe their treatment and medicines, he said. All the books and study material related to Unani Medicine has always been published in the Urdu language here in India. Both the style of Greek treatment and the language is promoted here through Urdu, thereby share a long and strong bond.
He said that the National Urdu Council has been working for the last several years to conserve its historic heritage and the Unani approach to the Council. Several important books have been published on the history of medicine, Unani medicine, by the Council and similarly many more are in the pipeline which will be out soon. The two should also strive to maintain a mutual relationship in the 21st century and take positive steps in this direction to move forward, said Dr. Ahmed.
