Unani has a hidden treasure of sharbats and syrups that can effectively deal with heat related symptoms. By preparing syrup, medicinal juices will not be spoilt and they retain the action for a longer time. The thicker the Qiwaam (consistency), the longer the medicine remains in good condition.
Sharbat is an Arabic word meaning “drink”. Sharbat is commonly used as a sweet drink in Tib (medicine). It is a sweet liquid medicine prepared from the juices of fruits, leaves, decoction or infusion of the drugs and sugar or honey. It has been known to the Eastern people from the very early times. Hakim Pythagoras was the first to invent the idea of preparing syrup. By preparing syrup, medicinal juices will not be spoilt and they retain the action for a longer time. The thicker the Qiwaam (consistency), the longer the medicine remains in good condition. Though Sharbat are been used for various therapeutic indications, many types of Sharbat are also indicated or can be very effective in heat management.
