Ayurveda health supplements Crutches of false claims not required
Ayurveda’s comprehensive approach to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being has formed the foundation of the Indian medical system for thousands of years. Now, as it is making inroads in the West, the number of ayurveda pharmaceuticals is growing fast. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative medicines, at least 200,000 adults in US had used Ayurvedic medicine in 2007. The number has swollen since then. According to estimates, ayurveda sales globally accounts for about 6% to 7% of the international market.
Along with the growing popularity, however, there are growing instances of false claims and adulteration. It is also not an India-centric problem because FDA is looking at pharma companies across the globe. Out of 300 million diabetes patients in the world, nearly 26 million are in US and over 60 million in India. The sales of diabetes medication have increased 60% from $14 billion to $22 billion in the past 4 years.
