The most natural human feeling of laughter gives way to some egoistic feeling seriousness
Can you laugh in a church, dance in a church, sing in a church? Yes, singing is there, but that is sad, and people sit with long faces. No wonder nobody wants to go to church — it’s just a social duty to be fulfilled; no wonder nobody is attracted to the church — it is a formality. Religion has become a Sunday thing. For one hour you can tolerate being sad. Most of the people come to religious preachers and their holy places to seek blessings. They want happiness and prosperity in their life. But it is really sad to say that if these seekers stay longer with holy men–Sadhus, Mahatmas and Acharyas– they end up being more and more serious, as this so-called religious way of living anti-life. They learn to renounce the simple natural pleasures of life, as they are on some holy trip. The most natural human feeling of laughter gives way to some egoistic feeling seriousness that they are holier than others, so they cannot laugh openly.
