DECODING SVAPNA
The mysterious question, “Why do we dream? is rather easy to ask but difficult to answer. Dreams are also one of the functions of the human body in both physiological condition as well as pathological condition.
Dreams have a long history both as a subject of conjecture and as a source of inspiration. Throughout history people have sought meaning in dreams or divination through dreams.
Svapna is one of the unexplored concepts in Ayurveda. Description of Svapna is found abundantly in the ancient classics specifically Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Darshanas and Ayurveda. However with the exception of Ayurveda, its description in the other texts seems to be more philosophical. The theories of Svapna were known since times memorial to all the ancient civilizations all around the world. Svapna were significant in the field of medicine and decoding of Svapna also lead to proper diagnosis and prognosis of disease as well as for the maintenance of health. Gradually with time, literature involved with dreams and those who could interpret them were also lost.
