Expand Your Consciousness and Rejoice in your Being
The whole art and science of meditation is to expand our consciousness to become one with the cosmic consciousness, the brahma. It is precisely for this reason that the seekers used to go away from the confines of home to the vast expanse of the Himalayas, to the banks of Ganges and to the forests–just to meditate under the open sky. For most of them, it was not possible to find such a space at home. The availability of the outer sky does help the inner sky within us, within our heart and soul, to expand and become one with it.
Recently the same has been discovered about the human brain. The scientists have found that the human brain has been shrinking for the past 20,000 years, and we have lost roughly a tennis ball’s worth of neurons in volume, possibly as a result of ‘domestication’. According to fossil records, at the end of the last Ice Age, 20,000 years ago, the average male brain was 1,500 cubic cms. Now it is 1,350, meaning that we have lost roughly a tennis ball’s worth of neurons in volume, researchers said.
