Ayurvedsutra Vol 03 issue 10 251 - Physiological Basis of Panchakarma

Ayurveda has its own principle and view to visualize the body action on the basis of three physiological humors as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Vata regulates all biological events and is responsible for movements, Pitta is responsible for digestion and metabolism and Kapha is providing strength, protection and immunity. Abnormality to these physiological humors creates specific symptoms, and is regulated by panchakarma by means of vamana, virechana, anuvasanabasti, niruhabasti and nasya. Vamana karma removes vitiated kapha orally, virechana karma removes vitiated pitta by anus, anuvasana and niruhabasti is administered for vitiated vata per rectum and drugs administered through nose is nasya for urdhwajatrugataroga.
