Treating Infertility: Barrenness amid Plenty
Woman is considered as kşetra & man as bīja; woman is shakti and man is Shiva; arthavam is āgneya and shukram is soumya in nature.
Fertility is the natural ability to produce offspring. Conception takes place when a woman’s egg gets fertilized by a man’s sperm resulting in pregnancy. For some couples, having a baby is a fairly straightforward process. However, other couples have difficulty conceiving. ‘Infertility’ refers to when a couple is not successful with conceiving after having unprotected sex for 12 months depending on age.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 60 to 80 million couples worldwide currently suffer from infertility. Infertility varies across regions of the world and is estimated to affect 8 to 12 per cent of couples worldwide. Infertility tends to be highest in countries with high fertility rates, an occurrence termed “barrenness amid plenty”.
