The place was R.G.Kar Medical College, Calcutta (now Kolkata). The year was 1960, and I, a final year MBBS student, was waiting to be called in for the Internal Medicine Gold Medal Prize examination. Each of us 5 students who qualified for this final round would have to appear before 5 senior professors in turn and each of them would grill us for half an hour.
